This week’s TTT comes from Miss Cook, first grade teacher. She shares a few simple ways to help your child become a super reader!
My tip is for parents to read with their children every day! Read to your children! They love to hear you and it’s a great way to spend time together! It is so important to read TO your child, but also let them read to you! Give them an audience for their reading. Encourage them to sound out words on their own, instead of telling them the words. Push them to try as hard as they can to figure out words they may not know. It’s ok to let them struggle sometimes. They will be so proud of themselves when they finally figure out those words and you will be too! After reading, ask them questions about the story, like: What was your favorite part?; Who was your favorite character?; How do you think the characters felt?; Why did they feel that way?, etc… All of these things will help make your child a SUPER reader!!
