Congratulations to Ms. Dawn Landreaux, 1st grade teacher, for being selected by her peers as Riviere’s Teacher of the Year. Ms. Landreaux has taught for 28 years, 25 here at Riviere where she has served as lower grade chairperson, Dibels and F&P testing coordinator, ABIT team member, SIP team member, and on various other committees. Ms. Landreaux is an excellent teacher, both academically and socially, she treats all her children with love and respect as she would want her own treated. Her love of helping others has continued with her children, her son a neonatal nurse practitioner and her two daughters are teachers, one of which teaches here at Riviere. Unfortunately for Riviere Ms. Landreaux will be retiring at the end of this year. She will be greatly missed next year, in the classroom and on the dance team (which she founded!), but mostly by all her family at Riviere. Ms. Landreaux plans on spending time with her grandchildren, and doing whatever she decides upon retirement.
Congratulations to our 5th grade student Jennifer Silva who has been selected Riviere Student of the Year. Jennifer has been at Riviere since Pre-K. She has maintained a 3.9 GPA for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. She was accepted into the talented art program in 2nd grade. Jennifer enjoys reading novels and working on the computer. She is also very active, she has been on the dance team for 3 years, plays basketball and soccer. Jennifer, by nature, is very quiet and humble. While she may not stand out at first encounter, after spending a bit of time with this outstanding young lady, one cannot help but become awestruck by the mature qualities she possesses. This is shown in class, when placed in a small group learning setting, other students seem to flourish from her academic excellence, as well as her diligent work habits. Perhaps the most special modeling Jennifer does is her close watchful eye on her younger sister, Julia, a nine year old child with Downs Syndrome. Jennifer helps her with her academics as well as her physical care. She is a joy to have at our school, and the entire staff is excited to have Jennifer Silva represent us as our Student of the Year.
